FIFTY YEARS ALREADY
The Dr Rizk Clinic (in Achrafieh) commemorates his Fiftieth anniversary in February 2007. In fact, the 1st Building "A" was inaugurated on February 11, 1957. For the History, the clinic existed already before this date, but was located on other sites (Ras El Nabeh …) and had a less capacity of reception. Various Events and Celebrations will punctuate this year to celebrate the 50 years of the Hospital and will be opened to all the public (Patients, visitors, doctors and the staff of the Hospital).

SOMETHING NEW IN THE FITNESS CENTER
Yoga or How to Stay Zen !
Since the end of 2006, the Fitness Center of Dr. Rizk Clinic (Building C, 2nd floor), proposes a new course: the Yoga. Yoga, with several other techniques, is part of the "body and spirit" approaches. Thanks to simple exercises, positions and the control of its breath, it helps the mental and muscular relaxation instantaneously. Yoga does not require particular skills and is addressed to everybody: old adults and children, stressed people, people in good health, pregnant women, athletes... RESULTS: The well being of the body and of the mental state is immediate. One leaves regenerated and without stress! Yoga allows a clear improvement of the systems’ regulation: respiratory, nervous, blood, digestive and hormonal. A FIRST IN LEBANON
Dr. Rizk Clinic’s Heliport ready for the Lebanese Army!
Since May 20, 2007, the HELIPORT of Dr. Rizk Clinic works with full mode, day and night, to accommodate the severely wounded soldiers of the Lebanese Army. The use of our Heliport by our Army constitutes a first in Lebanon. For the small history, the Heliport is functional since 2002. It is located on the terrace of the Building D and gives access to the Emergencies, the Units of Intensive Care and the Operating rooms in less than 1 minute!

A SECOND SPECIALIST JOINED THE EMERGENCY UNIT
In October 2006, Dr. Rabih Asmar was the first doctor specialized in the Emergencies cases recruited by the Hospital. A second specialist of the Emergencies joined the medical Team of Dr. Rizk Clinic, at the beginning of January 2007. Welcome to Dr. Nabil Dagher! Like Dr. Asmar, he has several years of experience in the French Hospitals’ Emergency Units. Hence, the Hospital ensures the presence of a Doctor at any hour of the day or of the night, for the best treatment of our patients.

REDUCED PRICE FOR A MAMMOGRPHY
To the occasion of the “National Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign 2007”, sponsored by the Ministry for Health, the Medical Imaging Unit of Dr. Rizk clinic will reduce the price of the Mammography at 40 000 L.L. The realization of this exam allows a quick detection of the breast cancer and gives good chances of survival and conservation of the breast. According to recent statistics carried out by the Ministry for Health, 34% of Lebanese women never carried out this exam precisely due to financial reasons.

More than 60 Helicopter Landings on Dr Rizk Clinic's Heliport
Since May, 20th 2007, day of the 1st landing of a helicopter from the Lebanese Army on the hospital Heliport, 37 landings have been executed days and nights and 62 soldiers severely wounded have been hospitalized within the Hospital.

Opening of the Radioprotection Unit
The New Radioprotection Unit is finally operational, since September, 1st. It is located in the 3rd Sub-basement of Building B, within the Radiotherapy Unit. Dr Therese Hanna (Radiation Protection Adviser) supervises the Unit in joint collaboration with Misses Dolly Abou Jaoudé (Radiation Protection Officer).

HOTLINE Available for the In-Patients

Every In-Patients of the Hospital have the possibility of dialing an internal number in order to communicate their complaints or suggestions to a representative of the Quality Unit. The Hotline is opened every day, from 8am to 4pm, except Saturday, Sunday and during official day-off.

Reinforced Safety Measures
Considering the current situation in the Country, Dr. Rizk Clinic decided to apply new measures in order to guarantee the Safety of the Patients, Visitors and of his Personnel. -> There is only one pedestrians’ access by the main door of the Building B. Attention, the safety guards are entitled to control any person without exception -> The Car park Accesses are systematically controlled by two persons equipped with sophisticated materials for the detection of weapons and explosive machines.

Thursday March 1st, 2007, the Auditorium Dr. Toufic Rizk was full (more than 300 attendants) for the Conference animated by Mr. Maxime Chaya, 1st Lebanese to reach the seven higher summits of the World, of which the Mount Everest (8850 meters). Patients, suppliers, representatives of the Third Payers, personnel of the Hospital and Doctors, all were present to listen his testimony and to watch the exploits of this passionate Man. Thank you M. Maxime Chaya!

New Test of Guthrie
Until now, the neo-native tracking Test (Test of Guthrie) carried out at the Hospital for all the new born, made it possible to detect few days after the birth 4 diseases: the congenital hypothyroid (HC), the phénylcétonurie (PCU), the congenital galactosemy (GC) and the deficit in G6PD. From January 1, 2007 and with the agreement of the Management and of the Executive Committee of the Hospital, this Test will evolve to a new program which will enable us to detect 24 additional diseases (28 diseases instead of 4). This new measure is intended to improve the health of our New born and to increase even more our methods of prevention in the medical field.

Dr. Rizk Clinic Officially a Non-Smoking Establishment!
The Executive Medical Committee and the Board of Directors of the Hospital have unanimously decided to generalize the prohibition of smoking in public places (waiting rooms, cafeteria, elevators, stairs, toilets…) during the day as well as during the night. This measure is applicable to everybody: personnel, doctors, patients & visitors. It was adopted for several reasons. The main ones being the following: • Hospitals should cover their mission of care, health promotion and obligation in the prevention of tobacco smoking in order to prevent the negative effects of tobacco on health. • Offer a healthy environment, particularly the quality of breathed air. • Protect and respect patients and non-smokers. • Reduce the risks of fire. In order to inform the public of this decision, information boards have been installed around the hospital. Moreover, the personnel and the physicians of the Clinic have been sensibilized to help applied this new measure. Therefore, the only area where smoking is permitted is the central garden of the Hospital.

Dr. Rizk Clinic is accredited again
Accreditation is a formality that enables to appreciate the accomplished work by Hospitals, in order to improve the quality and security of care delivered to patients. Dr. Rizk Clinic is engaged since a long time in a continuous improvement of the quality of care and of the security. After being accredited for the first time in 2002, the hospital was accredited again in November 2005 after the passage of qualified auditors send by the Ministry of Health. As such, we are part of the 23 Lebanese Hospitals classified Category I and we confirm our engagement to improving the satisfaction of our patients thanks to the quality of our services.

The Hospital has been recertified ISO 9001: 2000
Dr. Rizk Clinic was the first hospital in Lebanon and in the region to have launched the quality concept and obtained ISO Certification 9001: 2000, in May 2002. ISO certificate 9001: 2000 is an official proof that Dr Rizk Clinic is compliant with certain requirements and presents all the necessary characteristics required in terms of quality. On April 2005, the Clinic has been again recertified ISO 9001: 2000 by a Canadian Certification Body: QMI Company (Quality Management Institute).
