Pain Nurse / Anesthesia Nurse

Shift rotation basis (8 hours)

Registered Nurse licensure, Bachelor’s Degree is preferred
Work Experience:
Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in Anesthesia or Pain is preferred

Responsibilities and Duties: 

• Function as a knowledgeable and supportive member to maintain high quality patient care.
• Participate in pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation.
• Prepare Anesthesia equipment and supplies appropriately for procedures.
• Calibrate and test anesthesia equipment.
• Prepare prescribed solutions.
• Select, apply and / or insert appropriate non-invasive monitoring devices for continuous evaluation of the patient’s physical status.
• Assist the anesthesiologist in the induction, the intubation and the extubation.
• Continuously, monitor airway, oxygenation, pulmonary & cardiovascular status, temperature, neuromuscular function, positioning and status.
• Assist the anesthesiologist upon transfer of the patient from intraoperative to post-operative care provider.
• Perform all nursing duties while adhering to all facility policies and procedures.
• Be aware of safety issues and strive to accomplish all responsibilities in a safe manner, consistently reinforces good safety attitudes and practices displayed by other staff members.
• Handle and be knowledgeable of all medical equipment utilized in the care of the patient.
• Attend required in-service training.

• Providing comprehensive assessment and management for patients who are consulted to the pain program/service.
• Performing daily patient rounds, evaluating pain management therapies and identifying actual and potential side effects related to therapy.
• Acting as a role model by performing thorough pain assessments, documenting pain assessments, interventions and outcomes.
• Collaborating with anesthesia in making clinical recommendations to optimize the provision of pain care.
• Acting as a resource for patients, families, staff and students in relation to pain management.
• Assessing educational needs of staff and patients and developing strategies to meet identified needs.
• Developing, delivering and evaluating educational pain programs to staff.
• Disseminating and facilitating the implementation of recent innovations and research findings relevant to nursing practice and pain management.
• Developing relevant patient education material.
• Delivering educational pain information and teaching to patients and families as required.
• Developing, implementing and evaluating policies and procedures related to the assessment, management and education of patients experiencing pain.
• Participating in committee and task force work within the institution as they relate to pain management issues.
• Participating in the evaluation of new pain related products, equipment and techniques.
• Participating in pain quality improvement projects, data analysis and reports.
• Reporting all patient and staff incidents and potential risk situations, taking action where possible and contributes to quality improvement initiatives.
