Requirements: 
  • B.S. in medical laboratory or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience as Medical Laboratory Technician is preferred.
Required Skills: 
  • Good knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written English skills. French is a plus.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control procedures and practices including standard precautions and hazardous chemical handling.
  • Knowledge of good laboratory practices (GLP) and other regulatory agency standards within area of responsibility.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, managers, patients and donors. Ability to work effectively as part of a team effort and as an individual contributor.
  • Attention to detail and maintaining accurate lab notebook.
  • Must have aptitude for technical problem solving.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and procedures.
  • Able to work any scheduled shifts.
  • Able to perform under pressure.

 

Responsibilities and Duties: 
  • Draw blood from in and out patients and collect fluid samples from patients. The fluid samples may include urine, saliva, sputum, phlegm, semen...
  • Perform pre-analytical processes including patient ID, phlebotomy, specimen labeling, specimen verification and receipt.
  • Prepare specimens and samples. Perform diagnostic tests on collected fluids and tissue specimens.
  • Perform moderate and high complexity testing accurately and precisely according to established procedure.
  • Post analytically, validate results using established indicators, investigate deviations from the norm, recognize trends or shifts, apply corrective action and support scientific investigations.
  • Record and sometimes interpret results and present to senior colleagues.
  • Maintain and adjust of laboratory equipment as required under the supervision of the Head and the Coordinator of department.
  • Implement and confirm the technical bioassays.
  • Perform manual tests strictly according to the procedures. Entry of test results on workbooks and "job list".
  • Communicate results for concerned persons (Medical staff, Medical students, Physicians).
  • Work with automated analyzers without changing much in the testing equipment.
  • Assist lab leadership in the completion of miscellaneous duties.
  • Share daily workload; promote teamwork and cooperation and secure work environment within the laboratory. Contribute to section and department objectives.
  • Keep up to date with technical developments, especially those that can save time and improve reliability.
  • Prepare laboratory reagents, chemicals, instruments and equipment.
  • Clean and disinfect of laboratory work benches and instrument.
  • Manage the inventory and the fridges in accordance with laboratory procedures. Participate in inventory control and supply chain operations. Ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced.
  • Read and adhere to all laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Maintain established department policies, procedures and objectives, including the areas of quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
  • Perform, review and document all quality control according to established policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Head of department about patients’ requests and concerns. Notify management of any delays in testing and any related factors.
  • Assist with the orientation and training of new staff/students.
  • Be aware of the role of the position and its potential impact on patient care, the work unit, the department, and facility operations and seek to satisfy patient/patient’s family expectations.
